From my late 20s to early 30s, I suffered from severe cystic acne. I couldn’t actually wear a bag over my head, so I opted instead to limit my outings to just work and the grocery store, and only while wearing a thick layer of special corrective makeup. (That’s no way to live.) One dermatologist after another prescribed insanely long courses of antibiotics and irritating creams. I didn’t know any better at the time that taking antibiotics for months (and years!) at a time was a bad thing. Conventional medicine failed to diagnose my problem, and when yet another doctor gave me a choice of Accutane or a lifetime of antibiotics, I walked away and decided to take matters into my own hands. I decided to learn if there was some way to fix my acne without harming my health.
After two years of research and many trials and corrections, I cured myself naturally of the acne cysts and began my journey to wellness. Once I helped myself, I helped family members get their health into better balance, too.
My passion to learn more about holistic wellness inspired me to earn a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. I went on to study with Dr. Daniel Kalish and other functional medicine doctors. I studied wellness coaching with Wellcoaches (in collaboration with the American College of Sports Medicine), as well as fingernail and tongue analysis with Dr. Tsu-Tsair Chi. Today, I help others to not just feel better, but to create lasting health changes.
Functional wellness is a system based on concepts of functional medicine that customizes nutritional and lifestyle support programs based on your personal biochemistry and health challenges. With a special focus on adrenal and thyroid function, I help my clients get back their energy, sleep better, correct gastrointestinal problems, balance hormones, elevate their mood, and as a side effect of good health – even lose weight.
